Artist of the Week
This week I have been heavily listening to Oxnard's very own Anderson .Paak! .Paak is a producer, songwriter, rapper, and a multi instrumentalist. Playing the electric guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, and drums he is one of the most dynamic artist in the game right now. Combining hip-hop, jazz, gospel, funk, and soul he has created a distinguished sound for his name. In February 2019, at the 61st Grammy Awards .Paak received his first grammy award for Best Rap Performance with the hit single Bubblin' .
He is also a live band member of Free Nationals. Respecting the greats who have paved the way before them, Free Nationals means the first people of America native to the land before Columbus. Staying connected to musics roots Free Nationals tribute soul artists such as Al Green and Stevie Wonder. Anderson .Paak recreates a timeless sound for the new generation.
Watch the NPR Tiny Desk Concert video above of Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals! I feel this depicts his organic flavor and style in the very positive light. Showcasing both soul and technique his stage presence is one that can't be replaced.
My favorite song by him right now is Make It Better ft. Smokey Robinson. The fact that he collaborated with someone from Motown is both crazy and legendary. He stays true to his soul with zero hesitation. This is he reasons he is my choice for "Artist of the Week".
